The high school faculty has a theme each year. This year’s theme is: “Be a part of something greater than yourself.” Mrs. Liz Pratt, a beloved high school teacher, has two sons. Her younger son, Grant, was diagnosed with Leukemia earlier in the school year and staff and students wanted to show their support for Grant and the Pratt family.
It was decided by students and staff to hold an “Orange-Out” at Friday night’s home game against Zeeland East. Orange is the color that represents the fight against Leukemia. Mrs. Stacy Johnson, teacher at the high school organized the design and sale of the shirts which quickly sold out! The proceeds from the shirt sale along with proceeds from face painting by our AP art students and cotton candy sales by student council all were dedicated to the Leukemia foundation in the name of Grant Pratt.
Grant was able to attend the game with his parents to witness the outpouring of support from the Rocket faithful as well as our guests, the Chix from Zeeland East high school.
To be a part of something greater than ourselves adds purpose to our lives. We will continue to support Grant and his family as he fights and beats the challenge set before him.
