That makes a “Turkey” for our Lady Rockets! This past weekend, our girls bowled their way to a third consecutive GMAA tournament title. The Rockets topped No. 1 seed Oakridge 319-255 in a two-game Baker format in the finals. It is R-P’s third consecutive city title.
“I couldn’t be more proud of these girls. When the times were tough, they actually pulled it out and came out with the win,” R-P coach Cheryl Johns said. “Even though they were down in the semifinals, they pulled it out big in that last game to take away the win against Fruitport to make it into the finals.”
In the semifinals, R-P defeated Fruitport 327-299. Oakridge defeated Western Michigan Christian 313-244 in the other semifinal, but managed just a 114 in the first Baker game in the finals. R-P posted games of 167 and 152 in the finals.
The girls team scores in qualifying were Oakridge (1,805), Reeths-Puffer (1,786),Fruitport (1,691), Western Michigan Christian (1,611), Ravenna (1,580), Mona Shores (1,559), Orchard View (1,451) and Muskegon (1,243).
In the individual competition, Fruitport’s Mackenzie Plichta won the girls title with games of 167-195 for a 362 two-game total. She edged Reeths-Puffer’s Becca Johns, who finished second with a 346. Rounding out the top five were Fruitport’s Rachel Pierce (343), Ravenna’s Brieanna McFarren (343) and Ravenna’s Kendra Schuitema (333).
