The Men’s Golf Team wrapped the fall season with a 6th place (of 13) finish at the Trinity Christian Troll Classic yesterday. Senior Drew Johnson (Reeths-Puffer High School, Muskegon, MI) (pictured) capped his PNC Golf career with a fine 75 to lead the team. Zach Rose (Niles, MI) fired a 76 and Brad Rose (Watervliet, MI) had 78 as the team posted 313 for the day. Drew and Zach both finished in the top 10 individually, marking the first time the team has placed two players in the top 10 in the same event.
Coach Jay Williams was quite pleased with the team results. “First off, Drew has worked hard on his game and made himself a legitimate threat in any event we play. I’m so happy for him to have finished his career with a nice round today. Plus, we got a boost from Zach Rose today who played the way we’ve been waiting for him to. This is a great way to end our fall season.” Williams added that Johnson set the team record for scoring average in a season at 77.6. “Even when Drew wasn’t at his best, he was able to bring it in under 80 in every round this season. That’s impressive, when you look at the courses we compete on.”
While the team loses Johnson to graduation after this semester, Williams is optimistic that good things are in store for the team in what will be the final spring competing as PNC prior to the creation of Purdue Northwest. “We’re sad to see Drew leave, but I’m excited about Ben Crandall who will be joining the team next semester. With Brad, Zach, Brandon (Martin) and Ben, we’ll be ready to go in the spring.”
