If you were thinking race cars, think again! We have a sophomore, Maryssa Depies, competing in the MHSAA Cross-Country state meet held at Michigan International Speedway this Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
Maryssa recently finished in 5th place in the MHSAA regional meet which qualified her to race in the State Final meet. The Rocket Ladies Cross team finished 5th overall in a strong 16 team field.
Maryssa expressed the team’s chemistry this way; “The team chemistry is amazingly strong. Everyday at practice, we come together as one large family and support each other as we do what we love. Strong bonds and friendships form throughout the season, and they remain strong well beyond the season. The relationships provide immense support and happiness that never fails to exist.”
Maryssa ran her fastest time against our friendly rival (Mona Shores), running a very respectable time of 18:31.
Upon hearing that she qualified to run at the State Meet, Maryssa shared, “At the beginning of the season, I made it an ultimate goal to qualify for the State Meet. After I qualified, I was overwhelmed with an uncontrollable amount of joy! It’s hard to explain my actual feelings; however, it was very exciting to celebrate.”
We are very proud of Maryssa and wish her the very best as she competes at the State Cross-Country meet on Saturday!
