Muskegon Area Career Tech Center students Erin Brault (Oakridge), Jackie Bartels (Oakridge), Emily Huber (Mona Shores), and Corinna Irvine (Reeths-Puffer) will be packing their bags next week for a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The four traveled to compete in the National HOSA-Future Health Professionals Competition, June 24 through 28, 2014.
The students earned the opportunity to advance to the national competition in Florida after their success at the state conference in Traverse City, Michigan on April 23 and 24. Brault won a gold medal and Bartels won a silver medal in the Medical Assisting event. Both students are from Oakridge. Huber of Mona Shores won a silver medal on the Current Health Issues Exam and a bronze medal in Medical Math. Irvine of Reeths-Puffer won a bronze medal in Sports Medicine and placed in the Top 8 for Courtesy Corp. In addition, Irvine earned a $500 college scholarship for being named an “Outstanding Student” for HOSA Region IV by the Michigan Health Occupations Educators Association (MHOEA).
This year, 6,085 students competed in 54 different events at the national conference. Students will also took part in leadership academies, toured healthcare facilities, explored exhibits presented by professional healthcare associations, and more.
